Four years ago Chorus York presented its first concert, a program of traditional Christmas music, with arrangements coming from a British heritage.
This season, we open with another Christmas program that features a number of well-known “traditional” carols, such as The Holly & the Ivy, Do Your Hear What I Hear, & The Carol of the Drum. You will also hear John Rutter’s A Candlelight Carol and An Echo Carol, based on an old French traditional melody. Of course, there are many beautiful Christmas carols composed right here in Canada. We are delighted to be performing Rejoice & Sing this Christmas Morn, by Eleanor Daley, and No Room, by Larry Nickel.
With titles like Can You Hear the Christmas Bells? & Ring the Bells, you might think that there will be more than just choral singing in this concert, and you would be correct. Chorus York will share the stage with The Bells of St. Matthew’s, a local handbell choir under the direction of Joan Plume, a group noted for its virtuosity & musical talent.
To add to the fun, you will have an opportunity to sing some favorite carols, such as Joy to the World, Away in a Manger & others that will help you get in the Christmas spirit.
